Malta International Airport plc (MIA) registered a 9.7% increase in aircraft movement in January to to 4,324 movements.
Passenger traffic peaked at the beginning of the month as the holiday season drew to a close, with 3rd January marking the airport’s busiest day of the year so far. On that day, the airport handled 35,166 passenger movements across 207 scheduled and charter flights, and 594,889 passengers in a whole month.
The seat load factor also rose by 2.3 percentage points to 76.1 per cent.
Italy ranked as the airport’s largest market in January, accounting for 18.4 per cent of total movements. Poland followed with 16.4 per cent, ahead of the United Kingdom at 15.7 per cent. Germany and Spain accounted for 6.5 per cent and 5.7 per cent respectively.
