Virtu Ferries and Gozo Highspeed have cancelled all trips for Friday 17th January due to inclement weather, disrupting travels between Malta, Sicily and Gozo.

Sharing updates on its social media, Virtu Ferries company also advised customers that Saturday 15th’s departure from Malta at 5am is cancelled as well.

“There is the possibility of a departure on Saturday afternoon at 5pm, weather permitting,” it announced.

Departure times are expected to be announced late Friday morning on its social media pages.

According to the Malta Weather page, a developing low-pressure system over the Gulf of Gables will contrast with a strong pressure system over continental Europe.

“This is expected to generate a maritime SE to ESE Gale Force eight wind over the Maltese Islands with sea waves that could reach up to eight metres high. The wind may be accompanied by squally rain and thunderstorms leading to some localised damage. Confidence in forecast is 80 per cent,” the page informed.
