safeen prestige

A Malta-flagged container ship was hit by a missile off the coast of Oman while moving through the Strait of Hormuz en route to Saudi Arabia.

The Safeen Prestige was travelling from Sharjah, UAE, to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia when it was struck by a projectile off the coast of Oman, causing a fire in the engine room, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

Times of Malta reported that no one was injured in what was the fourth attack on a vessel in the area. Iran has pledged to fire on any vessel attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil exports.

The Safeen Prestige issued an emergency call and contacted Maltese authorities in the afternoon.
