The Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival will celebrate its 20th edition this summer with a series of literary events across multiple venues in Malta and Gozo between 2nd and 30th August 2025.

Organised by Inizjamed, the festival will feature seven authors from six countries: Italo-Somali novelist and poet Ubah Ali Farah, Spanish poet Carmen Camacho, Maltese essayist Omar N’Shea, Maltese playwright Simone Spiteri, British writer Kassia St Clair, Belgian poet Maud Vanhauwaert, and Maltese poet Michael Zammit.

Readings will primarily be in Maltese and English, with some works delivered in their original languages.

Events will be held at Spazju Kreattiv, Vincent’s Eco Farm, the Malta Society of Arts, Café Riche, and Teatru Salesjan, alongside an open mic night in Gozo. The festival will also include screenings, panel discussions, writing workshops, community readings, and live music.

This year’s edition marks the start of a three-year collaboration between Inizjamed and Spazju Kreattiv, which will see joint events take place during the festival and throughout the year. Other partners include Arts Council Malta, Versopolis, APS Bank, l-Għaqda tal-Malti – Università, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di La Valletta, the National Book Council, and Teatru Salesjan.

The programme will also include outreach initiatives in Marsaskala, Ħaż-Żebbuġ, St Vincent de Paul Residence, Dar Merħba Bik, and a care home in Għajnsielem, Gozo.

Admission to several events will be free of charge, while others will require ticket purchase through showshappening.com.
