Malta recently hosted the Build Europe bi-annual Congress, organised by the Malta Development Association (MDA).

The event, hosted in Malta for the second time, gathered over 34 representatives from developer federations across 20 European countries to discuss challenges and opportunities in the construction and real estate sectors.

Held from 29th to 31st October, the congress featured round table discussions on affordable housing, planning efficiency, taxation and sustainable development.

Delegates also toured key Maltese developments including Joseph Portelli’s Mercury Tower, db’s ORA Residences and AX Group’s Verdala project.

MDA CEO Leon Chetcuti emphasised the importance of collaboration to improve housing availability and quality across Europe.

“By sharing our experiences, we can ensure our communities continue to grow in sustainable and meaningful ways,” he said.

Housing Authority CEO Matthew Zerafa highlighted the need for innovative, adaptable housing strategies to meet changing demands.

“Europe must build differently – not just more. We need a diversified housing supply that reflects how people live today and how they aspire to live tomorrow,” Mr Zerafa concluded.
