MaltaPost plc is once again accepting letters and documents bound for the United States (US), though parcel services remain suspended until further notice.
Nearly a month ago, MaltaPost paused outbound mail to the US after airlines and cargo operators stopped accepting international post. The disruption followed the US Government’s decision to abolish the long-standing ‘de minimis’ exemption, which had allowed goods worth under USD 800 to enter duty-free and without extensive paperwork.
The measure prompted a precautionary pause by MaltaPost to ensure compliance with updated aviation and customs requirements.
With partner carriers now lifting restrictions on letter and document shipments, Maltese customers can resume sending letters and documents to the US.
However, MaltaPost stressed that parcels are still not being accepted for US destinations.
Inbound mail from the US to Malta was not impacted during this period and continues to be delivered as usual.
“Maintaining regulatory compliance while ensuring reliable service remains our top priority,” MaltaPost said, thanking customers for their patience.
The company added that it is committed to fully restoring all postal services to the US as soon as possible and will keep customers informed as the situation evolves.
