Malta’s Office for Competition, within the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA), has joined a new EU-wide initiative aimed at strengthening digital capabilities in competition law enforcement.
The project, titled DICE – Supporting Digital Transformation in Competition Law Enforcement, brings together national competition authorities from 15 EU Member States and will be implemented over the 2026–2027 period. It is supported by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition and funded through the EU Technical Support Instrument.
As digital markets continue to evolve rapidly, technologies such as advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence are reshaping competitive dynamics while also creating new enforcement challenges.
Through the DICE project, participating authorities will enhance their technical, legal and analytical expertise via tailored training, knowledge-sharing and the adoption of advanced, data-driven investigative tools.
The initiative aims to ensure that competition enforcement across the EU remains effective and fit for purpose in an increasingly digital and AI-driven economy.
