Melita Limited has introduced Voice over LTE (VoLTE) roaming for its mobile customers travelling in Australia, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium and Switzerland, with more destinations being added in the coming weeks.

VoLTE enables voice calls to be made over 4G or 5G networks rather than traditional 2G or 3G systems. This results in clearer audio quality, faster call setup times, and improved coverage.

The rollout extends Melita’s existing VoLTE service, which is already available across Malta and Gozo, allowing customers to make higher-quality voice calls both locally and abroad.

James Spina, Chief Technology Officer at Melita, said the development supports the company’s ongoing efforts to modernise its mobile services.

“The introduction of VoLTE roaming is another step forward in our efforts to provide modern, high-quality mobile services and prepare for the future as legacy network technologies are phased out,” he said.

To use VoLTE while in Malta or roaming, customers must ensure their device supports the feature and that it is activated. Guidance is available on Melita’s website.
