The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) has issued a warning about a website operating under the domain mfsa.finance, which it says is using the Authority’s name, logo and website content in an effort to deceive the public.

In an official announcement, the MFSA said it had become aware of an entity with an online presence at mfsa.finance. The Authority clarified that the website is not an official MFSA channel and has no association with the regulator.

The MFSA said the website appears to be a clone of its official website.

The Authority urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with online entities and to carefully examine website URLs and email addresses, as these may closely resemble the official channels of legitimate organisations.

The Authority also reminded consumers not to enter into financial services transactions unless they have established that the entity involved is authorised to provide the relevant services by the MFSA or another reputable financial services regulator.

A list of entities licensed by the MFSA is available through the Authority’s official Financial Services Register.

For further information about clone companies and other types of scams, consumers are directed to ScamAlert.mt, the consumer-focused portal providing information on warning signs associated with financial scams.

The MFSA said anyone who has fallen victim to a scam, or suspects they may be dealing with an unauthorised entity or another type of financial scam, should stop all transactions with the company and contact the Authority as soon as the suspicion arises.
