The Michelin Awards have recognised 43 restaurants in Malta this year for meeting the Guide’s standards for quality, consistency, and culinary craftsmanship.
Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg handed out awards during a ceremony on Monday, hosted by the Malta Tourism Authority and the Michelin Guide, to present the 2025 Michelin Awards to Malta’s top culinary establishments.
“The Michelin Awards not only catalyse economic growth in the short term, but also create lasting ripple effects that support Malta’s broader economic resilience,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg said, stressing the importance of the culinary arts in Malta’s tourism.
“This year’s Michelin Guide reaffirms Malta’s reputation, reinforcing our position as a must-visit destination for quality tourists – visitors who appreciate fine dining, culture, and authenticity. These awards reflect the commitment of our hospitality sector, and the Government remains fully dedicated to supporting its continued growth. They also embody our vision for the future – a future where our cuisine tells the world who we are: a nation of heritage, passion, and excellence,” Dr Borg explained.
During the ceremony, three categories of Michelin distinctions were awarded. ION Harbour retained its prestigious Two Michelin stars, maintaining its position as Malta’s highest-rated restaurant. Six restaurants were recognised with One Michelin Star: Le GV, which earned its star in 2025 for the first time just months after opening, along with De Mondion, Rosamì, Under Grain, Noni, and Fernando Gastrotheque, all of which retained their distinction.
In the Bib Gourmand category, five restaurants were celebrated, while another 31 were acknowledged as Michelin Recommended, including three newly listed establishments: La Pira, Risette, and The Seafood Grill Market – each meeting the Guide’s standards for quality, consistency, and culinary craftsmanship.
Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, praised Malta’s food sector as central to the nation’s tourism strategy. “Your talent has transformed Malta into a world-class dining destination, and this dovetails perfectly with the Malta Tourism Authority’s broader strategy of attracting higher spending and higher yielding tourism all year round.”
Charles Mangion, Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority, reflected on Malta’s rapid culinary ascent during the last four years, noting that, “In 2020, our nation was home to just three Michelin-starred restaurants. Today, that number has more than doubled, a testament to the unwavering commitment of our chefs and restaurateurs who push the boundaries of culinary artistry.”
