Sofia Alonso-Mossinger, a student who ordered from popular China-based retailer Shein, was horrified to find a scorpion in her package.
Recounting the odd incident, 18-year-old Ms Alonso-Mossinger stated that she had ordered a pair of boots. Upon arrival, she opened the package and spotted something moving, mistaking it for a toy.
Luckily, with the assistance of her flatmates at the University of Bristol, she transferred the venomous creature into a tub to be collected by an expert from England’s National Centre for Reptile Welfare (NCRW).

“I thought I was dreaming. I feel like I am all right with spiders, but it was scary being in a room with a random scorpion,” she said.
Expert Chris Newman remarked that a sting from the Chinese scorpion, Oliverus martensii, could be potentially life-threatening to some.
Notably, he pointed out that such incidents have become “surprisingly frequent” and increasingly concerning, as this marked the second occurrence in less than a month where a scorpion was discovered in a Shein package.
