In this article, we speak with three team members: Lee-Anne Abela, Kris Vella, and Maria Mamo. Each brings a unique perspective, skill set, and professional background to the firm. From long-standing experience to fresh perspectives, their journeys highlight the collaborative and growth-oriented culture that defines Finco.

Lee-Anne Abela – Senior Tax and Accounting Professional

Lee-Anne rejoined Finco in November 2024 after more than two decades of previous experience with the firm. Known for her dedication, reliability, and in-depth tax knowledge, she is one of the trusted professionals in the team, respected by clients and colleagues alike.

What made you return to Finco after so many years, and what has changed or stayed the same?

I thrive in a challenging environment, and since Finco is a multidisciplinary firm, there are always new opportunities for personal growth and for acquiring knowledge and expertise. That aspect of the firm has remained constant over the years.

What do you find most rewarding about working in tax and accounting?

In tax, there is always something new to learn, as we are constantly presented with technical questions that require research and problem-solving. In accounting, being the relationship manager for a select group of clients allows me to build strong professional relationships. It’s also rewarding to support clients throughout the entire fiscal cycle.

What kind of support do you give or receive within the team during busy periods?

There is a strong sense of teamwork, especially during busy periods like at the tax or accounting deadlines. Everyone is willing to step in and help each other, which makes a big difference when managing high workloads.

Kris Vella – Payroll Specialist

Kris has been with Finco Trust for over 14 years. He has grown with the company and now leads its payroll support services, providing solutions for both local and international clients. Known for his energy, team spirit, and problem-solving approach, Kris is the go-to person for payroll and social security matters.

How did your role at Finco develop over the years?

Started as a Junior handling basic postings, gradually progressed along the learning curve, gaining experience and responsibilities, leading to the current role.

What do you enjoy most about managing payroll and supporting clients with complex cases?

I believe that for most employees, payday is the most anticipated day of the month, and I take pride in being part of what contributes to that monthly smile. At the same time, payroll carries significant responsibility, and at Finco, everything is calculated correctly in line with Maltese Laws, and we ensure that all taxes are accurately calculated to avoid any unexpected tax bills for employees at year-end.

How do you collaborate with other departments to keep things running smoothly?

Primarily, we handle payroll preparation on behalf of our clients, with all payments being executed directly by them. As such, no other departments within Finco are typically involved, except in a few cases where we upload the payroll amounts to the clients’ banking platforms for their approval. This step is managed by Nathanael, who is responsible for banking operations.

Maria Mamo – Accounting Executive

Maria joined Finco recently in May 2025 and quickly became known for her enthusiasm and outgoing personality. She brings energy to the workplace, is always ready to help, and is already showing a growing interest in taxation.

What have your first few months at Finco been like?

It’s been a great start, everyone has been very welcoming, and I’ve enjoyed learning and contributing to the team. I’m excited to keep growing here at Finco.

What part of your accounting work are you enjoying learning about the most?

I’ve really enjoyed learning more about financial reporting, it’s interesting to see how the numbers tell a story and support decision-making.

What has helped you settle in and feel part of the team since joining?

The support from my colleagues has made a big difference, everyone’s been approachable and helpful, which really helped me feel part of the team.
