Emirates flights to and from Malta have been cancelled for the sixth day running as the airline announced it is operating a reduced flight schedule until further notice.

This follows the partial reopening of regional airspace for the safe conduct of commercial flights.

Emirates Airlines that over 100 flights will depart from Dubai and return on 5th and 6th March, carrying travellers as well as essential cargo like perishables and pharmaceuticals. These initial flights don’t seem to include Malta.

“Emirates will continue to gradually build back its flying schedule, subject to airspace availability and all operational requirements being met. Safety is always our top priority,” the airline said.

Customers who booked a flight to Dubai until and including 31st March also have the option to rebook on another flight before 30th April or request a refund.

The situation remains extremely fluid. Flights to Malta were initially set to resume today but were pushed to Sunday yesterday. However, Emirates has now announced it is operating a limited schedule until further notice.

Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Ian Borg announced yesterday that a separate private airline has agreed to bring back the absolute majority of Maltese tourists who were left stranded in the United Arab Emirates when the war with Iran broke out last weekend.

Dr Borg said that if all goes as planned, the flight will depart Dubai International Airport in the coming days.

Prime Minister Robert Abela also confirmeed that the Government will cover the travel costs of these impacted travellers.
