Evaluation studies for a potential metro system in Malta are still in the works, but should be concluded “in the coming weeks” according to Transport Minister Chris Bonett.

Answering a parliamentary question, the minister said the studies are being done to deem which metro system would be the best fit for the islands and be the most feasible without running into “budget issues”.

In this national project, he added, consultations will be sought for the best solution for the country.

During the 2022 general election campaign, the Labour Party had presented the results of a study on the feasibility of a mass transport system in Malta costing around €6.25 billion, but is yet to issue any concrete proposal on the project.
