Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo on Thursday announced a €200,000 scheme aimed at supporting recognised swine cooperatives.

The Ministry, through the Agricultural and Rural Payments Agency (ARPA), developed this scheme intended to provide financial assistance to cover the running costs of swine farmers for the years 2020-2022.

Minister Refalo said that Government is working continuously so that national schemes can be issued to provide further financial assistance to Maltese and Gozitan farmers with the aim of alleviating some of the additional burden they are carrying throughout these times.

“This scheme goes hand in hand with other schemes that Government has already launched for local farmers. Apart from this aid, the swine sector in Malta is currently benefiting also from the Private Storage Aid for Pig Meat issued by the European Union though European funds. This aid also helps to have more flexibility in how to address supply in the market,” reiterated Minister Refalo.

For more information on this scheme or other aid schemes, one can contact the Agency for Agricultural and Rural Payments (ARPA) by sending an email to arpa.mafa@gov.mt or by calling 22926148.
