Malta welcomed an estimated 470,643 inbound tourists in August 2025, representing an 11.5 per cent increase compared to the same month last year, according to newly published figures by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
Holidaymakers made up the majority, with 450,599 visitors travelling for leisure, while 11,039 tourists arrived for business purposes. The largest share of arrivals were aged between 0 and 24 (37.1 per cent), followed by the 25-44 age group (34.2 per cent).
Italian, British, and French residents accounted for 48.5 per cent of all inbound tourists.
The number of total nights spent increased by 10.5 per cent to 3.5 million nights, with 86.1 per cent of guest nights spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay stood at 7.4 nights.
Tourist spending reached €548 million, up 15 per cent compared to August 2024.
Average expenditure per night was estimated at €158. Visits to Gozo and Comino totalled 326,196, representing 69.3 per cent of total tourists, including both same-day and overnight visitors.
January to August 2025
For the period January to August 2025, inbound tourists totalled 2,681,635, a 12 per cent increase over the same period last year. Total nights spent rose by 10.4 per cent to 16.9 million nights.
Total expenditure for the first eight months of the year reached €2.56 billion, up by 18.2 per cent compared to 2024. Average expenditure per capita increased to €956, from €906 recorded last year.
Gozo and Comino attracted 1,577,212 visitors (58.8 per cent of total tourists) during this period.
