Gozo Fast Ferry fire

A “minor” fire broke out on a vessel operated by Gozo Fast Ferry early on Monday morning, shortly after leaving the Mgarr, Gozo harbour on a scheduled trip at 7.45am.

Later on Monday, Gozo Fast Ferry issued the findings of a preliminary review, which can be found here.

The company has officially confirmed that “all passengers on board were disembarked safely and all safety procedures were followed”.

It added that nobody was injured in the incident and fire suppression systems were immediately engaged by the crew. An internal investigation to determine the cause of the fire is currently underway.

Sources familiar with the incident shared that the vessel’s captain put out the fire using onboard firefighting equipment, and that firefighters from the Civil Protection Department then boarded the vessel to ensure the fire was indeed out.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank the respective authorities for their immediate response and assistance,” a company spokesperson said.

An updated schedule of today’s trips has been uploaded online here.
