electricity

A new website created by Maltese software developer Jonathan Bugeja is giving residents a simple way to keep track of electricity outages across the islands in real time.

Named dlam.mt, the platform provides live information on both planned and unplanned power cuts, while also maintaining a searchable archive of historical outages.

The website displays the locality affected, whether the outage is on the high or low voltage network, the time it started and ended, its duration, and its current status. Users can also view the affected area on a map.

In a post announcing the project on LinkedIn, Mr Bugeja described it as "a weekend project" inspired by a personal frustration.

"I turned something that was bothering me into what hopefully will be something useful for some. dlam.mt is a status page for the Maltese electrical grid, with coverage of current and historical unplanned and planned outages."

He added that the platform runs on "a very frugal serverless deployment on Amazon Web Services (AWS)."
