KM Malta Airlines unable to offer alternative flights this week to those affected by London disruptions

The cancellation of two return operations between Malta and London were due to disruptions caused by technical system failures affecting the UK’s National Air Traffic Services air traffic control systems, KM Malta Airlines has said.

“The disruption, which affected numerous airlines, resulted in the enforced cancellation of one return operation between Malta and London Heathrow and one return operation between Malta and London Gatwick," the airline said.

The airline said it regrets the disruption experienced by passengers travelling to and from London Heathrow and London Gatwick on Tuesday. “Unfortunately, these cancellations have occurred during a period of exceptionally high travel demand. The combination of the public holiday in Malta, major entertainment events attracting visitors to the island, and passengers returning home at the end of the summer holiday period has resulted in flights to and from Malta being particularly heavily booked.”

As a consequence, KM Malta Airlines said it is unable to offer affected passengers alternative flights during the remainder of this week, saying that most available flights are fully booked.

“The airline recognises the considerable inconvenience this will cause and is making every effort to assist affected customers with alternative travel arrangements on later dates, subject to availability.”

“Passengers wishing to rebook their travel to an alternative date or explore travel on an alternative route are requested to contact the KM Malta Airlines Customer Service Centre on +356 21356000. Passengers who no longer wish to travel may request a full refund through the dedicated refund function on the airline’s website.”

Flight services are expected to operate as planned from today, the airline said, adding that some delays may occur as airports and air traffic control services gradually return to normal operating patterns.

KM Malta Airlines said it sincerely apologises to all affected passengers “for the inconvenience and disruption caused by circumstances beyond the airline’s control. The airline remains committed to assisting customers and providing updates as further information becomes available.”
