VisitMalta has once again garnered international recognition, securing two notable awards at the 2025 Travel Weekly Magellan Awards in the United States.
The tourism body’s Digital Unit won a Gold Award for the second consecutive year, this time for its “Explore more ___” video branding and advertising campaign.
The project brings together the varied attractions of the Maltese Islands under a unified promotional theme, with the aim of presenting the destination as an all-encompassing travel experience.
In addition to this, VisitMalta also received a separate award in collaboration with travel publisher TravelZoo for its participation in the “Best Bets 2025” campaign. Malta was featured as one of nine key destinations in this initiative, which highlighted top travel recommendations for the year ahead.
These achievements were acknowledged by Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, who emphasised the strategic value of the awards in attracting tourism from key markets. “This recognition reinforces our strategy in attracting high-quality travellers from the North American market through finely focused marketing, achieving the best utilisation of flight connectivity to Malta,” he noted.
Launched by Travel Weekly, a prominent business-to-business travel publication in North America, the Magellan Awards recognise exceptional performance across the travel industry – covering everything from destination marketing to tour operators and hospitality. Importantly, submissions are evaluated by an expert panel comprising leading figures in the industry rather than through public voting.
Hon. Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, commended the awards, stating that “these awards are a testament to our continued commitment to showcase the Maltese Islands as a leading destination on the global tourism stage.”
The distinction offered by the Magellan Awards lends strong industry credibility to the winning entries.
