From Monday, residents of Malta and Gozo will no longer need an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, as health authorities ramp up their efforts to get the last remaining section of the population protected against the virus.

A statement released by the Ministry of Health indicated that those wishing to take the vaccine in Malta can simply go to Gateway Hall at the University of Malta from Monday to Saturday between 08:30 and 15:00.

Meanwhile, Gozitans can go to the Gozo Conference & Expo Centre on weekdays (Saturday not included) between 08:30 and 15:00.

Children under 16 need to present an identification document and need to be accompanied by a guardian who can give consent to the vaccination.

Also from Monday, a mobile unit will be visiting different localities to improve accessibility to the vaccine in Malta’s towns and villages.

Health Minister Chris Fearne announced the first locations on Twitter on Tuesday morning.

The mobile unit will be present in Mosta on Monday 19th, Zejtun on Wednesday 21st, and St Julian’s on Friday 23rd.

No appointment will be needed to visit the mobile unit.

In all cases, those wishing to receive the vaccine must present their Maltese ID card.

Those without a local identification document can present any other ID along with proof they are resident in Malta.

Such proof can include water and electricity bills, a rental contract, or an employment contract.
