Can blockchain help make shipping goods in and out of Malta faster and cheaper?

And how can it help with other aspects of business in Malta, like payroll, inventory, or customer relationship management?

Experts will discuss “tangible and easy-to-implement” applications of blockchain technology at an upcoming panel event later this month.

Hosted by the Malta Business Network, the event is entitled: “Real-World Applications for Blockchain Technology – How conducting business is radically changing.”

Blockchain is a shared, immutable ledger that facilitates the process of recording transactions and tracking assets in a business network.

Feres Mezghani, an outspoken blockchain-evangelist, will moderate the panel discussion.

Speaking ahead of the panel event, he said the panel features a mix of academics and blockchain business innovators that will share their experiences and knowledge on how the technology can be deployed to industries on the island.

Mezghani is not just a participant in Malta’s blockchain scene; he’s a leading driving force behind it.

As the founder and organiser of Crypto Ħub Malta, he is dedicated to blockchain education and collaboration.

He will be joined for the hour-long discussion by several leading blockchain experts and stakeholders.

These include Joshua Ellul, the director of the Centre for Distributed Ledger Technologies and an associate professor of computer science at the University of Malta, and Joseph F. Borg, a lawyer with a special interest in blockchain as well as an academic who also lectures at the University of Malta.

Also joining the panel is Max Thake, a successful entrepreneur and front-runner for real-world applications on blockchain. He is the co-founder of peaq, which bills itself as a global, decentralised network built to power applications in industries such as mobility, energy, and telecommunications. A recent ICO on CoinList saw its market cap valued at €333 million.

The other panellist is Matthew Felice Pace, the CEO of Simply Staking – a homegrown global leader in blockchain infrastructure provision and development. Since co-founding the company in 2018, he has helped grow the company into a 40-person operation with the ambition to expand further as it solidifies its position in the market and actively work towards integrating this technology into real world applications that can make an impact on people’s lives.

The event will be held at OKA’s At The Villa in St Julians on 17th June at 6pm.
