Ferrari has confirmed that its first fully electric vehicle will be called Luce, marking a historic shift for the Maranello marque as it prepares for a 2028 release. The announcement signals a new era for the brand long associated with roaring V12 engines and Formula 1 pedigree, as it accelerates into an electrified future without relinquishing its performance DNA.

The project has reportedly been shaped by former Apple design chief Jony Ive, whose influence is expected to be felt in Luce’s minimalist interior architecture and user interface. Mr Ive, best known for defining the visual language of the iPhone and MacBook era at Apple, has brought a technology-first philosophy to Ferrari’s traditionally mechanical world.

A Turning Point for Maranello

While Ferrari has already dipped into electrification with hybrid models such as the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the Ferrari 296 GTB, Luce will be its first vehicle powered exclusively by electricity. The move aligns with tightening global emissions regulations and the broader industry shift towards zero-emission mobility.

For a brand built on sound as much as speed, the transition is significant. Ferrari executives have previously insisted that any electric model must deliver not just performance, but emotion. Insiders suggest Luce will feature advanced sound engineering to preserve a sense of theatricality, even without an internal combustion engine.

Production is expected to take place at Ferrari’s expanded facility in Maranello, with deliveries slated for 2028. Pricing is anticipated to sit well above €500,000, reinforcing its ultra-premium positioning.
