Malta International Airport has published its flight schedule for the upcoming summer season, introducing new routes – including a direct flight to New York.

Delta Airlines will become the first ever American carrier to operate direct flights to Malta, with three weekly flights between the island and New York between June and October.

Northern Europe will also benefit from improved links to Malta, particularly within the Scandinavian region.

Norwegian will continue to expand its presence with the launch of a new route to Billund in Denmark.

It will also increase frequencies on its services to Oslo and Helsinki over the summer months, while Ryanair will extend its direct flights to Gothenburg in Sweden into the summer season.

Air Baltic will double the frequency of flights operated between Malta and Tallinn, from once to twice weekly, while WizzAir will continue operating direct flights to Tirana and Ryanair will launch a new route to the Albanian capital.

In the United Kingdom, easyJet will introduce additional connections to Glasgow and Newcastle, while Jet2 will operate a new route to London Gatwick.

A total of 658,328 passengers travelled through Malta International Airport throughout the month of February, with daily traffic peaking at 30,875 movements on the 15th, as the Carnival and Valentine’s Day festivities over the weekend drew to a close.

Seat capacity during February 2026 reached 806,540 seats, translating to a year-on-year increase of 15.8 per cent. Seat load factor also climbed to 81.6 per cent, marking a 1.1 per cent improvement over 2025.

Italy was Malta’s most popular market, accounting for 18.2 per cent of total traffic, closely followed by the UK, which accounted for 18.1 per cent.

MIA said that while the year has been off to a strong start and the new schedule offers improved connectivity and greater convenience, it continues to monitor geopolitical developments.

Its Traffic Development team is maintaining close communication with airlines, particularly those with scheduled flights to countries affected by the ongoing conflict.
