On Monday, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Ian Borg, welcomed the Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation, and Telecommunications of the Republic of San Marino, Luca Beccari, for a bilateral meeting held to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, an agreement was signed on strengthening political consultations between the Republic of Malta and the Republic of San Marino.
Minister Borg said Malta welcomes the opportunity to deepen relations with the country of San Marino as well as assist with the necessary support so that the country strengthens its relationship with the EU. He reiterated how Malta and San Marino already enjoy excellent relations and that contact and exchanges between the two countries are valuable.
On a European level, Minister Borg said that closer integration with San Marino is also in the interest of Malta and the EU, as it can potentially improve the prospects for further growth, investment, innovation, and jobs. He noted that three sectors that can benefit from this are the culture, education, and sports sectors.
During the meeting, reference was also made to the last high-level meeting held in Turin on 20th May 2022, between Ministers Ian Borg and Luca Beccari.
