The Malta International Airport plc has announced on Tuesday that in March it launched additional connections to Denmark, Hungary and the United Kingdom, “paving the way for enhanced connectivity ahead of the summer months.”
In March, flights to and from Malta offered a total of 851,608 available seats, marking a robust 17.2 per cent increase in seat capacity compared to the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, the seat load factor experienced a slight decline of 2.1 percentage points, settling at 85.1 per cent.
According to the company announcement, Scandinavian Airlines has resumed its operations in Malta, introducing direct flights to the Danish capital of Copenhagen and enhancing travel connectivity to the Scandinavian region.
An official company announcement by the Malta International Airport plc, read: “Adding to the airport’s expanding Eastern European network, Universal Air has started operating flights to Debrecen, Hungary’s second-largest city, while easyJet has introduced a link between Malta and London Southend, providing an additional gateway to the United Kingdom.”
March figures show that the United Kingdom continued to rank as the airport’s second strongest market, representing 18.9 per cent of the 725,134 passengers for the same month.
Meanwhile, Italy held onto the top spot with a 19.6 per cent market share, while Poland, Germany, and Spain followed to round out the five leading markets.
Both categories registered an annual inflation rate of 4.3%
