Malta International Airport MIA

Malta International Airport plc (MIA) continued to exhibit an upturn in performance in August, with traffic increasing by 6.7 per cent when compared to the same month in 2019.

Passenger movements for the month amounted to a total of 878,462.

Even though seat capacity increased by 2.8 per cent over 2019, MIA stated that the seat load factor stood at an “all-time high” of 91.4 per cent, highlighting the “very strong demand” for travel as holidaymakers headed to their preferred destination.

Italy remained at the top in passenger movements for yet another month with 244,322, while the United Kingdom ranked second as it continued to perform below 2019 levels.

When compared to July, Germany and France traded places, with the former market moving back up to third place. The difference between the two markets amounted to just 2,709 passenger movements. Spain ranked fifth for the third consecutive month.
