Malta International Airport records 12.3% passenger growth in August

Malta International Airport welcomed 1,204,465 passengers in August, representing year-on-year growth of 12.3 per cent.

In an official statement, Malta International Airport said the result was driven by a 12.4 per cent increase in aircraft movements, with take-offs and landings peaking on three separate days during the month.

Seat capacity also grew by 15.2 per cent, while the seat load factor (SLF) stood at 89.3 per cent, indicating strong demand for air travel to and from Malta.

According to the August traffic results, Italy was the leading driver of passenger traffic for the second consecutive month, accounting for a 20.6 per cent share of total passenger movements.

Rome Fiumicino Airport was not only the preferred airport among passengers travelling to and from Italy in August, but also the most popular airport among the more than 120 destinations served by Malta International Airport’s network.

The United Kingdom and Poland ranked second and third respectively, recording passenger growth of 10 per cent and 49.6 per cent.

Germany ranked fourth despite a 4.8 per cent decline in passenger numbers, while France also registered a decrease, with passenger traffic falling by 10.8 per cent.
