Credit management is taking on renewed strategic importance as businesses contend with economic uncertainty and tighter liquidity.

In response to this shift, IDEA College, in collaboration with the Malta Association of Credit Management (MACM), has launched the Undergraduate Diploma in Credit Management and Collections. The course is the only nationally accredited qualification in this area in Malta.

Accredited at MQF Level five by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), the diploma aims to provide formal pathways in a profession that has historically lacked structured training. Developed by IDEA College with full endorsement from MACM, the programme also includes a 20 per cent tuition scholarship for MACM members.

“Credit professionals are no longer just supporting business, they are enabling it,” said Dr Nadia Maria Vassallo, Principal of IDEA College. “This programme recognises that evolution and provides a structured, accredited foundation for people who want to lead in this space and not simply operate within it.”

Josef Busuttil, Director General of MACM, underlined the economic importance of the role, noting: “Credit Management is a business process that protects cash flow which is the lifeblood of a business. A business experiencing cash flow problems will have no other option but to close doors. To secure sound cash flow, best credit management practices need to be deployed by investing in the skills and qualifications of people employed in this field.”

The course is designed for individuals working in credit control, collections, accounts and finance, as well as those seeking to enter the profession. Career opportunities include positions such as credit analyst, credit controller, collections specialist, financial assistant, and credit manager.

Subjects covered range from credit risk assessment and debt recovery strategies to legal frameworks, financial analysis, and communication in high-stakes scenarios. Tuition is delivered through evening and online sessions, offering flexibility for working professionals.
