melita.io has launched a new eSIM profile for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, as the Malta-based operator expands its connectivity offering to meet growing demand for scalable, cross-border digital infrastructure.
The solution, built on the GSMA SGP.22 standard, is designed to simplify how businesses deploy and manage connected devices across multiple markets. It complements the company’s existing SIM formats and integrates directly into its Connectivity Management Platform, allowing users to manage both eSIM and physical SIMs through a single interface.

The move reflects a broader shift within the IoT sector towards more flexible and remote provisioning models, particularly as companies scale operations internationally.
Malcolm Briffa, Chief Officer Business and IoT at Melita, described eSIM as “a key step towards more flexible and scalable IoT connectivity,” noting that it allows businesses to deploy faster and manage operations more efficiently at scale.
The technology is expected to support a range of applications where remote connectivity is critical, including smart metering, logistics, asset tracking, mobility and industrial automation.
For businesses operating across jurisdictions, eSIM removes the need for physical SIM swaps, enabling devices to be configured and updated remotely. This is particularly relevant for sectors such as utilities and smart city infrastructure, where large numbers of devices must be deployed and maintained in the field.
melita.io’s platform has also been upgraded to support eSIM-specific features, including QR code and LPA link access at SIM level, alongside enhanced API capabilities aimed at automating large-scale provisioning.
Positioning in a competitive IoT market
The launch comes as global demand for IoT connectivity continues to grow, with operators competing to offer more integrated and scalable solutions to enterprise clients.
melita.io currently provides connectivity across more than 185 countries and over 300 networks, positioning itself as a player in international IoT deployments rather than a purely domestic telecom provider.
The company also confirmed that it is preparing to introduce SGP.32 technology later this year, signalling further investment in next-generation eSIM capabilities.
To coincide with the rollout – which aligns with International IoT Day – the company is offering promotional pricing on eSIM profile orders during April, including discounted initial fees for larger deployments.
While promotional offers are common in product rollouts, the timing suggests a push to accelerate adoption among both existing and new enterprise clients as competition in the IoT connectivity space intensifies.
