MIA welcomed 13.9% more passenger movements in June 2024 than previous year
Malta International Airport (MIA) witnessed a 13.9 per cent increase in traffic during June 2024 when compared to the same month in 2023, reaching a total of 858,738 passenger movements.
Airport operations peaked towards the end of the month, as 33,269 passengers travelled to and from Malta on 207 flights on 27th June.
As a result, MIA has already surpassed the four million mark for year-to-date traffic, with 4,065,414 passenger movements being registered, 18.4 per cent over 2023.
Aircraft movements for June also rose by 14.7 per cent, while seat capacity registered an increase of 13.5 per cent.
Seat load factor stood at 86.6 per cent, a marginal improvement of 0.3 percentage points over the same month last year.
The top driver of passenger traffic for June 2024 remained the Italian market, having a market share of just over 23 per cent. This was followed by the United Kingdom (21 per cent), Germany (8.1 per cent), France (7.7 per cent), and Poland (5.2 per cent). Out of the top five, Poland represented the fastest-growing market, going up by 46.6 per cent.
The most popular airport was London Gatwick, with 50,447 passenger movements between it and Malta.
Additionally, MIA also published a traffic pattern guidance, indicating the busiest operational times during the summer months, in a bid to allow passengers to plan their journey in advance. This was also accompanied with a set of travel tips, viewable from MIA’s website, as well as signage which has been installed in the terminal.
