A new series from National Geographic which will be broadcast on Disney+, is being filmed in Malta.

This series, “Surviving Pompeii”, will combine documented facts about the natural tragedy of Pompeii with a dramatic narrative led by the renowned actor Tom Hiddleston.

Around 65 per cent of the entire production is being filmed in Malta, including at Villa Bologna, Fort Ricasoli, and Majjistral Park, with around 167 Maltese workers involved across various sectors, according to the Minister for Culture and the Film Commission.

This British production consists of three episodes, each approximately 60 minutes long.

The production has benefited from the cash rebate programme, one of the world’s most generous rebate schemes, offering productions up to 40 per cent rebate on eligible expenditures.

Malta has increasingly become a hotspot for big international productions, including Gladiator 2 (2024), Napoleon (2023) and Jurassic World (2022).
