Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that once all shops and services are allowed to reopen, Government will begin the process of issuing the second round of COVID-19 vouchers, amounting to €54 million.
The voucher scheme is aimed at helping local retail, hospitality and catering establishments following a highly challenging year. Residents of Malta aged 16 and over will be given a second round of €100 vouchers, with €40 eligible at retail outlets and €60 for restaurants and other establishments licensed by the Malta Tourism Authority this time around.
This is the second round of vouchers to be issued, with the first round having proved to be highly successful.
“We are not going to leave businesses alone,” Prime Minister Abela said, adding that assistance will continue to be provided while restrictions are in place.
Non-essential retail and services will be permitted to reopen on 26th April, after being ordered shut early in March. While restaurants have not closed entirely, as they are permitted to serve take-aways and delivery, bars, cinemas and entertainment venues have yet to receive a re-opening date.
