Over 300 students celebrated their graduation at the Institute of Tourism Studies’ (ITS) annual ceremony held on Monday, marking a notable milestone both for local talent but also for the institute’s growing international appeal. Around 20 per cent of the graduates this year were international students, portraying ITS’s expanding global reach, ITS said in a statement.

The graduates spanned a diverse array of programmes, from Foundation courses up to Master’s degrees, with standout cohorts including the Certificate in Food Preparation and Service, which had the largest number of graduates at 57. The Diploma in Climate-Friendly Travel also featured prominently, highlighting the tourism sector’s shift toward sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg, praised the class of 2025, stressing the importance of their role in shaping Malta’s tourism industry.

“Through your dedication to service and sustainability, you have the opportunity to inspire visitors and contribute to an industry that is striving towards a stronger, greener future,” he said.

ITS CEO Pierre Fenech expressed pride in the graduates’ achievements and the institute’s continued success in attracting international students. He noted with satisfaction that many graduates have chosen to continue their studies at the Institute during the current academic year, and he encouraged all students to pursue their education further.

The ceremony also included special recognition for Honoris Causa recipients, celebrated for their contributions to the pioneering Bachelor of Science in Diving Safety Management programme, which continues to garner international acclaim.

Student speaker Courtney Zammit shared reflections on her personal journey, including an international placement in Ireland and participation in a European hospitality competition in Sweden.
