A large plot of land situated along Mdina Road in Żebbuġ is set to go under the hammer in a court auction that should put to rest a case going back 24 years.

The 23,548 sqm site, in an area known as ‘Ta’ San Martin’, is situated directly to the back of Mount Carmel Hospital, on the other side of Inċita Valley.

The site in question

It is the property of Mixer Ltd, owned by Sebastian and Maria Dalli, and was used as collateral for a €2.23 million loan that remained unpaid. Together with expenses and interest accrued from 1st April 2000, the total outstanding value amounted to €4.84 million as of December 2014.

The batching plant

The site hosts buildings and infrastructure connected to batching plant activity, to serve the construction industry.

The warehouse on the site

There is a half-built office block over two storeys, together with a high-ceilinged warehouse and some other structures around the site, which the court-appointed architect described as being “in a state of neglect and dilapidation”.

The land to the east of the office block

The last permit was PA/5006/18, which was a renewal of the previously approved PA5857/16 – removal of existing ready mix plant and construction of warehouses – having been renewed in 2007 and 2000 as well.

The land to the west of the office block

The current permit is an outline permit for the development of the site into warehouses.

The court auction is set to take place on Thursday 29th February at 10.30am, in room number 78 in the Courts of Justice, in Valletta.
