Widespread power outages were reported across Malta as Storm Harry battered the islands with strong winds, leaving residents without electricity for extended periods in several localities.

Enemalta confirmed that multiple teams are working simultaneously to keep the electricity supply stable while repairing damage caused by the storm. In a statement, the energy provider said interventions on exposed power lines can only be carried out when weather conditions allow.

Despite ongoing efforts, residents in some areas reported prolonged outages, with some taking to social media to describe severe disruption. One Facebook user claimed to have been without electricity for 23 hours.

Among the localities affected are Mosta, Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Ibraġġ, Swieqi, and Żejtun.

Speaking to BusinessNow.mt, a Żejtun resident described how the outage began at around 10pm on Monday night and continued well into the following day (today), significantly impacting her ability to work.

“The electricity went out at 10pm on Monday night (yesterday),” she said, explaining that she was supposed to work from home due to the storm. However she still had to go out somewhere else to work since her laptop eventually ran out of battery.

The resident also raised safety concerns after noticing smoke coming from electrical sockets during the outage.

“I can’t even take a hot shower in this storm since I can’t turn on the geyser,” she added.
