The University of Malta (UM) has registered better scores in research quality and environment, industry, and international outlook according to a recent study by the Times Higher Education for 2025.

The teaching ranking went up by 0.5 points, meanwhile research environment improved by 1.1 points.

Research quality improved by 0.4 points, Industry by 12.8 points, and International by an even four points.

Although the university has seen improvements in all the categories, it still remained at the 801st spot out of 1,000 universities.

A positive year for the university

This was not the only positive result for the university this year.

It has achieved a milestone in the 21st edition of the QS World University Rankings, which included over 1,500 institutions from 106 locations worldwide.

UM has managed to place in the ranking band 751-760 as compared to last year’s ranking band 850-900.

In their newsletter, the university said that it has “surpassed 50 per cent of the institutions in terms of the overall rank and has notably performed well in employment outcomes with scores raising its rank in this indicator to 45th place which makes it in the top 3 per cent in the world.”

UM added that it has risen to 391st place in International Research Network leaping 25 positions and surpassing 74 per cent of the ranked institutions in this “important indicator.”
