Flights from Malta face delays and possible cancellations due to volcanic ash clouds

A number of flights departing from Malta have been delayed or cancelled following the eruption of Mount Etna.

In a social media post, Malta International Airport (MIA) said it is currently experiencing flight disruptions due to volcanic ash clouds over the Maltese Islands following recent activity at Mount Etna.

The airport advised passengers to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport.

Passengers whose flights have been cancelled or significantly delayed have also been advised not to travel to the airport unless instructed to do so by their airline.

Flights to Barcelona, Frankfurt, Paris, Paphos, Bournemouth and Bratislava have all been delayed.

In addition, a flight scheduled to depart Malta to Catania at 6:15pm on Tuesday has been cancelled.
