The CovPass Malta app needed by establishments to scan their customers and employees’ vaccine certificates is now available on the Apple App Store.
The app was initially only available to Android devices. However, it can now be downloaded onto Apple devices, one week before restaurants, snack bars and social clubs are no longer legally required to scan certificates on 7th February. Bars, gyms, spas, pools, cinemas and theatres will follow suit a week later.
The delay has been a big inconvenience to businesses, some of which told BusinessNow.mt they had been advised by the health authorities to borrow an Android phone until the app became available. Some of these businesses said they had resorted to buying a cheap Android phone, which they pointed out was hardly ideal at a time of rising costs and razor-thin margins.
The short-lived regulations have on the whole been a headache for businesses, many of which have experienced a loss of business and harassment by unvaccinated people angry at the rules.
