More than 50,000 people are set to gather in Valletta on Tuesday night (today) for the highly anticipated New Year’s Eve celebrations, marking the countdown to 2025.
The free event, taking place at St George’s Square, promises an evening of vibrant performances and spectacular displays, cementing its reputation as one of Malta’s largest end-of-year events.
The festivities will commence at 9pm and continue until around 2am, featuring an array of local talent including Shaun Farrugia, Ira Losco, Red Electric, and Kevin Paul.
Headlining the night will be international singer Cascada, known for hits such as Evacuate the Dancefloor and Everytime We Touch. The event will also showcase some of Malta’s iconic classic songs, offering a blend of local and international entertainment.
At the stroke of midnight, a fireworks display over the Grand Harbour will illuminate the night sky, while the celebrations at St George’s Square will feature sets by DJs Koroma, Miggy, and D-Rey, alongside a stage show with music, special effects, and live broadcasts on local television stations.
The event will be hosted by Dorianne Mamo, Taryn Mamo Cefai, Owen Bonnici, and Keane Cutajar.
Speaking at a press conference, Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef highlighted the event’s growth over the past decade. “10 years ago, we promised to create a celebration worthy of our capital city and its people. Today, the New Year’s Eve celebrations are phenomenal,” he remarked.
Minister for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government Owen Bonnici noted that the event strengthens Malta’s standing as a hub of art and culture on an international scale.
Valletta Mayor Olaf McKay acknowledged the challenges of managing the anticipated large crowds and encouraged attendees to plan ahead, urging the use of alternative transport options such as buses, ferries from Sliema and the Three Cities, and the Upper Barrakka Lift.
“We, as Valletta residents, are very proud to host this annual event,” Mr McKay added.
The celebration is organised by G7 Events in collaboration with the Valletta Cultural Agency under the Ministry for National Heritage, Arts, and Local Government, with support from the Malta Tourism Authority.
