Virtu Ferries Ltd, the only sea vessel company that operates a passenger service to and from Malta, has announced several amendments to its ferry schedule between Malta and Sicily due to rough sea conditions expected over the next few days.

These changes affect both Tuesday 15th April (today), and Wednesday 16th April (tomorrow), with potential further disruptions on Thursday 17th April.

According to the mariners three-day forecast that covers an area of 50 nautical mile radius off the Maltese coast, Wednesday is forecasted to be rather cloudy with light rain, becoming fine and partly cloudy overnight. With regards to wind conditions, it is projected to be from South Southeast force 4 backing East Southeast force 5 to 6, becoming westerly overnight.

The company urges all passengers to stay updated via the Virtu Ferries website or Facebook page for the latest information, especially if they plan to travel on Thursday, as more schedule changes or cancellations may be required.

These changes come at a particularly significant time, coinciding with the Easter recess, when many Maltese take advantage of the holidays to enjoy a short trip to Sicily. As a result, increased passenger traffic is also expected on Virtu Ferries.

Here are the updates so far:

Tuesday 15th April

  • 06:30 – Departure from Malta (on schedule)
  • 18:00 – Departure from Malta (on schedule)
  • 19:00 – Departure from Pozzallo (on schedule)
  • 21:30 – Departure from Pozzallo (on schedule)

  • 18:00 – Departure from Malta cancelled
  • 19:00 – Departure from Pozzallo cancelled
