Ryanair

In its winter schedule, Ryanair has expanded Malta’s routes to Rome Fiumicino, Katowice and Paris Beauvais.

The Rome Fiumicino route was intially introudced during its summer schedule, as prior to that, it flew to Ciampino airport.

The airline will start operating these routes from this month while also adding extra flights to 19 existing routes from Malta. This includes flights to Athens, Catania, Edinburgh, and Zagreb.

The new winter schedule was launched during a press conference, during which CEO Michael O’Leary shared the possibility of a new route between Malta and Morocco.

He commented that Ryanair had also considered flights to Turkey, but the Turkish authorities had opposed.

Mr O’Leary stated that the passenger traffic from Malta increased by 24 per cent in 2023 and is expected to carry 4.4 million passengers by the end of 2024.

Furthermore, he shared plans to expand Ryanair and its subsidiary MaltaAir’s fleet from seven to 14 aircraft, with a potential increase to 20 by 2030.

During the conference, he also noted that Malta is offering a great tourism product. He pointed out that for years, Malta’s issue was access, that is why the airline increased efforts in creating and building year-round access, especially during winter.
