fast ferry

Around 12,300 passengers used the Sliema - Buġibba - Gozo fast ferry route in its first week of operation.

Prime Minister Robert Abela announced this figure yesterday as he pledged to expand the ferry service even further, with a route between Marsaskala and Valletta next in line.

“Despite bad weather interrupting the ferry, 12,300 passengers still travelled on it in the first week,” he said. “I have always appreciated the potential of ferry services and I consider it to be one of the best forms of transport in the country.”

The route between Sliema and Buġibba is free for tallinja card holders, while the Buġibba - Gozo route costs €6.50.

Discounts apply for Gozo residents, students, senior citizens, children and those with special needs, while people using the ferry for hospital appointments are able to travel free of charge.
