Air Malta cancels flights to and from Milan Malpensa due to Italy airport services strike

Air Malta on Friday announced that its flights KM630 and KM631 between Malta and Milan Malpensa, scheduled for Sunday 17th December 2023, have been cancelled.

The decision comes after an airport services strike that is taking place in Italy and is affecting Milan Malpensa Airport. The four-hour national strike will see some air traffic controllers, the staff of various companies operating handling services, and the workers of some companies specialised in airport logistics for cargo air connections have their arms cross from 1pm to 5pm.

KM630 was originally scheduled to depart Malta at 11.30am, while KM631 was set to leave Milan Malpensa at 2.20pm.

The airline stated that passengers booked on these flights are being re-accommodated on alternative flights to ensure that they reach their destination on the same day.

Air Malta has transferred affected passengers to flights operating between Malta and Milan Linate. KM624 from Malta is scheduled to depart at 12.25pm, while KM625 is scheduled to depart to leave from Milan Linate at 3.15pm. However, the airline added that there may also be delays due to the disruption.

“In addition to the revised itinerary, Air Malta understands that some passengers may prefer to rebook their travel on an alternative flight,” it stated. Air Malta informed passengers that they can contact the airline’s customer service centre at +356 21662211 between 8am and 8pm on Monday to Friday and 8am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday for alternative flight options.

Air Malta stated that passengers who wish to receive a full ticket refund should send an email to [email protected], while those who booked through a travel agent should contact their respective agent, who can submit a refund request on their behalf.

“Air Malta regrets any inconvenience caused which is completely beyond the airline’s control,” it concluded.
