zibel plastic fork waste single use

An event taking place later this month invites participants to find solutions to one of today’s growing problems – single use packaging and carbon emissions from food deliveries – with the winners then given the assistance they need to bring the product to market.

Taking place between the 29th and 30th October, the 24-hour event is being organised by the EIT Climate-KIC Hub in collaboration with MCAST, and will be held at the college’s campus in Paola.

The Climathon is a global movement with events happening in cities around the world. Each local event seeks solutions for a local climate challenge in a hackathon format.

This year, the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) is providing the challenge: how to reduce single use packaging and carbon emissions from food deliveries.

Interested persons can register as individuals or as part of a team.

The final award is placement in the MED ClimAccelerator programme, which supports startups through funding, training and mentoring – the equivalent of €5,000.

The winning team will have the opportunity to implement their solution in 2022.

Other prizes include an annual TappWater starter package, Zero Waste Kits from EcoMarket and gift vouchers sponsored by HSBC.

Registration is now open for participants – students, young professionals and anyone interested in making a change – here.
