When John and his co-founder established Veracloud in 2019, they had a clear, almost prescient vision. While the world was still months away from a global shift in working culture, they were already building a company designed to facilitate it. “In 2019, we had the mindset of creating a solution or service around helping companies with their staff to be able to remote work,” John recalls. “We didn’t read the future. There was no crystal ball.”

Their first marketing campaign was built around a simple, powerful idea: “Work is not somewhere you go, it’s something you do.” This forward-thinking approach positioned them perfectly for the unprecedented events that followed. By March 2020, just as the world went into lockdown due to COVID-19, Veracloud’s growth phase commenced.

But this initial success was just the beginning. The company has since gone from strength to strength, culminating in its recent recognition as a Microsoft Partner of the Year – a significant honour that places them among the world’s elite. For John, the award is more than a trophy – it’s a validation of their entire approach.

“It kind of rubber-stamps it,” he explains. “It solidifies our position in the cloud space because we are really laser-focused on what we do and the technologies we use. We’re not trying to be the jack-of-all-trades.” This specialisation is key. Rather than diluting their expertise, Veracloud operates as a boutique managed service provider, offering deep, expert knowledge primarily within the Microsoft ecosystem. Winning the award required demonstrating excellence not just in sales, but in client education, solution adoption, and fostering a true partnership with Microsoft itself.

And while they operate within a sector increasingly driven by AI and automation, Veracloud’s commitment to a human-centric approach is a cornerstone of its philosophy. While John embraces technology for efficiency – “so my guys are less stressed and your staff are happier with the service” – he is adamant that it cannot replace the crucial element of human understanding.

“AI and automation can’t really understand the business because first we need to understand the human level of the CEO, the CTO, and how they operate,” he insists. “Are they risk-averse? Are they conservative? Business in our world is all about trust.”

This ethos is deeply embedded in their ‘Secure by Design’ principle. Far from an optional add-on, for Veracloud, security is the very foundation upon which every solution is built. “We don’t believe in basic security or security being an option,” John states firmly. “You either have it, or you don’t. Everything we do has to be secure by design.” It’s a non-negotiable standard that protects both the client and Veracloud’s own reputation, ensuring they are trusted partners, not just providers.

Such a high standard of service can only be delivered by an exceptional team, and John is clear that Veracloud’s culture has been instrumental in its success. “Culture is something we take very close to heart,” he notes. The organisation fosters a flat, collaborative environment where knowledge is shared freely. “There are no silos here, there’s no job protection because you know everything.” Regular town hall meetings and weekly ‘tech talks’ ensure the entire team is aligned, engaged, and constantly learning, creating a dynamic of innovation that is essential for staying ahead.

Looking to the future, Veracloud has its sights set on regional leadership. Having already established a presence in Cyprus and Greece, the ambition for the next year and beyond is clear. “We’re all about organic growth and partnerships,” John says. “I want to position ourselves as the go-to managed services Microsoft house of the Mediterranean. We want to become the top of mind, so that whenever anyone in our region says Microsoft, Veracloud is in the top three.”

Reflecting on his journey, John’s advice to other aspiring entrepreneurs is born from experience. He stresses the importance of persistence and finding the right business partners, but his most critical lesson is about adaptability. “Love change. Adore change. Keep it, hug it, embrace it,” he advises. “Being able to cope with that, and most importantly embrace it, will put you in front of others who don’t want to do it.”

It is this dynamic, forward-looking mindset that has propelled Veracloud from a promising start-up to a global award-winner, and it’s what will undoubtedly fuel its continued ascent.
