Donald Trump

Former-US President Donald Trump will launch his own social network this year, one of his advisors told Fox News over the weekend.

According to his senior advisor and spokesperson Jason Miller, Mr Trump will be “returning to social media in probably about two or three months”, with “his own platform”, expected to attract “tens of millions” of users, and “completely redefine the game”.

The former-President’s existing social media accounts were suspended in the wake of the Capital Hill riots in January which he was accused of inciting.

Mr Trump has been approached by numerous companies, and is in high-level talks about the new platform, according to Mr Miller, who commented, “everyone wants him and he’s going to bring millions and millions – tens of millions – to this platform”.

“This is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media… It’s going to completely redefine the game, and everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what President Trump does, but it will be his own platform”, Mr Miller said.

However, he was unable to provide much in terms of details at this stage.

The announcement has not been welcomed by everyone. Gab, a social network known for its far-right user base blasted the new venture on its now-deleted Twitter account.

“If it’s run anything like the 2020 campaign it will be a complete and total failure. No app stores. No hosting providers. No payment processors. No free speech. Good luck”, the company’s post read.

Mr Trump was a prolific user of social media, using Twitter especially to broadcast his opinion whenever he deemed necessary. He had nearly 90 million followers on the platform before it was banned.
