Electrical infrastructure upgrade necessitates two power shutdowns at MIA

Malta International Airport (MIA) has announced two power shutdowns planned for the coming week.

The first shutdown will take place between 11 pm of 11^th January and 4 am of 12^th January, while the second shutdown will take place on 15^th January between midnight and 3 am.

The planned outages will enable MIA to safely conduct works as part of an electrical infrastructure upgrade and ensure the successful completion of this important modernisation exercise, it said in a statement.

“The company’s investment in more modern electrical infrastructure will contribute to enhanced levels of safety as well as a more reliable electricity supply, whilst simultaneously increasing capacity for future growth.”   

The shutdowns will take place during periods that were identified as the airport’s quietest times.

Whilst the shutdowns are not expected to impact airport guests, MIA said that most of the terminal and car park lighting will be affected.

Additionally, some of the lifts and escalators around the terminal will be out of order, while certain services will not be available during the outages.

Whilst these shutdowns are not expected to impact flights, MIA apologised for any inconvenience airport guests may encounter as a result of these works.
