innovation strategy startup

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, has launched its newest joint hub in Malta. The primary purpose of the hub is to take regional innovation to the next level by providing a one-stop shop for Malta based talents and entrepreneurs to benefit from EIT Community opportunities in education, business creation and innovation.

The new hub is part of the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS) programme, established by the European Union to tackle Europe’s persistent geographic innovation divide. It will work to strengthen cooperation among leading business, education and research organisations, increasing Malta’s and the region’s competitiveness and contributing to sustainable economic growth.

The hub will also represent all the EIT’s Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) and prioritise the attraction and involvement of local participants in EIT Community activities.

This hub will serve as a centralised platform for innovators, offering comprehensive information on the various services and opportunities provided by the EIT Community in Malta, all EU Member States, and all Horizon Europe associated countries. Furthermore, it will take charge of the EIT Community’s collaboration with local authorities, offering policy support and expertise when necessary.

The launch of Malta’s hub aims to provide the EIT Community with a strengthened on-the-ground presence across Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. Similar entities have opened in Latvia, Cyprus, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Ukraine.

The hub will be overseen by Diana Miceli, who has been appointed as the National Secretary for the EIT Community in Malta. It will operate from offices located at BUSINESSLABS in Birkirkara.

Diana Miceli

Ms Miceli brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in fostering innovation and research across various sectors. Over the years, Miceli has applied for, coordinated, and implemented over 20 projects, significantly contributing to the development of Malta’s innovation ecosystem across various EU, National & International funding programmes.

In her role as the EIT Community Officer, Miceli will promote EIT activities within Malta, act as a liaison between the EIT KICs and national innovation communities, organise activities to engage local stakeholders, and facilitate partnerships that align Malta’s innovation agenda with the EIT’s strategic goals.
