The Government has confirmed the renewal of the Pathfinder Digital Scholarship for 2025, allocating €150,000 to support postgraduate students in technology fields, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and data science.

In 2024, €125,000 in funding was allocated to support 13 Master’s and three PhD students. The updated scheme will continue to support students pursuing MQF Level 7 Master’s degrees (up to €10,000 per student) and MQF Level 8 PhD studies (up to €20,000 per student).

Administered by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), the initiative forms part of the Government’s wider National AI Strategy and supports academic research in key areas such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Digital Trust and Cybersecurity
  • Knowledge and Data Representation
  • Environmental Sustainability and ESG Technologies
  • Other emerging digital domains
